I think it’s time to move the main Catch 22 Designs site beyond the WordPress blog. Time to dive into web development again!

Maybe It’s Just Me

Category: Uncategorized

… But I would like to see a true sequel to Perfect Dark done right. Hear that Rare? I’m talking to you, now. Perfect Dark Zero was okay, not bad, not great, just okay. It could’ve been better. You know you can do better. You’ve done better. It’s not like you don’t have an interesting universe built up around it either.

We can even ditch the whole alien thing for a minute. Nobody will mind, seriously.

Here, let me help you out a bit: Let’s explore the whole mega-corporation thing and what they do. I read the novel, they’re not happy peoples. Maybe they’re doing something particularly dastardly. Maybe they’re developing a seemingly innocuous device for nefarious schemes. And, hey, here’s a twist: dataDyne is actually the good guy, and Carrington seems to be the shady one in this deal! Play off the fact that Joanna didn’t really want to be there in the first place!

There you go, the first one’s free, for you. Consider it a gift from a fan.

Putting Pencil to Paper

Category: Random Weirdness

I have a very love/hate relationship with drawing. I love to do it, but I hate that I can’t do it very well. It’s not that I don’t see an improvement over time, I just wish I could do it better. Hell, I’ll take Fred Gallagher quality, that’s fine by me. (Not that I think Fred can’t draw, I’m actually a big fan of Megatokyo, but there are better artists out there.)

Some people say “Oh, you just haven’t found your style yet.” To those people, I say, “If I haven’t found my style after 20 years, then there’s not a style for me to find.” My problem is two-fold: 1) I don’t draw nearly enough if I want to really improve. 2) I don’t apply myself to really improving my drawing skills.

So, how does one go about fixing that, well, finding reasons to draw, and boy I’ve got a few.

Both ETS and PK need an artist to really get things moving. I’ve worked with a couple, but it seems everytime I find someone who’ll work with me, something happens. Health, family, life gets in the way. I won’t say anything bad about those people, I still talk to them when I can and they did help me a lot without charging me a dime. On top of that, what they were able to do was mind-blowing. For me, anyway. But I need someone who is going to be able to stick around, that I can easily communicate the ideas in my head to, and won’t make me pay them. Since I can’t seem to hold on to people like that, I figure I’ll just have to fill the role myself.

In that area, I have a lot of respect for people who have managed to make a career out of their IP’s. It’s horrifically hard to get started, it involves less of a work load and more of a work mountain. A mountain about the size of the Swiss Alps. It can be a bit overwhelming.

I’m still looking for people to take over certain jobs, it takes some of the strain off of me and lets me get things together faster. But I’m not going to actively pursue it. If someone wants to help out, they can help out. If they don’t, oh well.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

Category: Random Weirdness

Here’s something you’ve never seen before. My opinion on games! You’ve never seen that before have you? But no, seriously. Let’s have a little looksie. I’ll only be talking about the Xbox versions of the games, although the difference between the two seem to be purely cosmetic.

If you haven’t read that enormously long title we’re taking a look at Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Hit the jump to see what I thought of each.

Red Five, Standing By.

Red 5 Standing By    Wow, this has been a crazy busy day. Set-up a store, did some updates to the site and wrote three posts. But everything seems to be working so far. Which is good.
