FAQ
Catch 22 Designs – General Information
Who are these guys?
Catch 22 Designs has been many things over the years, and we hope to be many more things in the future. For now, we’ll just pull it back to this. Catch 22 Designs is an independant publisher of online comics. We like good stories, and we want to give people the chance to tell them without being constrained by things like trying to find a webhost or learning website design.
What’s the difference between Catch 22 Designs and other online comic hosts like Comic Genesis and Drunk Duck?
It’s that “indpendant” part. We aren’t part of some huge corporation, we’re just a couple of guys like you. The other difference between us and most other comic hosts is that we are not open for anyone to publish their webcomics on. Just like any other publisher, we require some proof that you’re serious about what you’re doing. If you’re an artist looking for a project, put together a portfolio of your work and we’ll help you a writer. If you’re a writer looking for someone to illustrate your story, write out a chapter or two and we’ll help you find an artist. The idea is to create a community of creative people who just want their shot at the limelight.
How can I become part of Catch 22 Designs?
That part is pretty simple! Send an e-mail to apply|at|catch22designs|period|com with the following information:
Artists: A portfolio showcasing your skills. Try to use a few different styles and genres. If you have previous comic making experience, try to show that as well. Sketches are permissible as long as they give a clear example of your work. This can be sent as a compressed archive or as a link to an online gallery of your work.
Some useful sites for galleries: deviantART, flickr, PhotoBucket.
Writers: A plot summary of the entire project along with a scripted draft of the first chapter, rough drafts are acceptable for the script only. Submit in .rtf or .pdf format.
Some useful tools for writing: OpenOffice.org, CeltX, PrimoPDF.
What will my site look like if I’m accepted?
Typically we use WordPress with either ComicPress or Webcomic/Inkblot to set up a comic site. This allows us a good balance of user customability and security. If you have your own site that you would like to use, we would be happy to work with you. As far as URL’s go, you will receive a yourcomic.catch22designs.com address. The site administration reserves the right to abbreviate the subdomain url in the case of longer names. We reserve the right to add a maximum of two ad boxes to your site (usually a banner in the header and footer) to help offset the cost of your site.
Can I sell products through my website?
Absolutely. You are more than welcome to set-up a store, as long as you take full responsibility for it. Keep in mind that Catch 22 Designs does not manufacture, ship, or manage your products, and is not liable for payment or delivery of them. We can make recommendations as to where to go to have shirts and such made up, but that’s as far as we can go.
Can I put ad-boxes on my site?
Sure. It’d be pretty mean of us to require our ad-boxes but then deny you your own. And we’re not mean people.
Well, most of the time.
Well, some of the time.
Well, we’re nice on occasion.
I really like comic XXXX. Where can I find out more information about it?
Great! That’s what we like to hear! Check that comic’s site for more information about it.
I have other questions, who can I get in contact with?
Just send an e-mail to admin|at|catch22designs|period|com with your question. We look forward to hearing from you!
